In another update for Indian railways catering service, IRCTC has introduced affordable meal service under the tag – “Ready to Eat”. Under this scheme, IRCTC will provide pocket friendly and healthy food for passengers. Preparation for the same had already begun and Indian railways had decided the cost at which ready to eat food will be prrovided. The cost of some food items decided by IRCTC are as follows –
  • Dal Rice – Rs. 32 per plate
  • Rajmah Rice – Rs 40 per plate
  • Matar Paneer – Rs. 45 per plate
  • Upma – Rs 40 per plate
  • Chicken Biryani – Rs 50 per plate

This scheme will be most helpful to those passengers who travels in long distance trains when launched in October by Northern Central Railway. It is only after “Janta Khana” Indian Railways have decided to add some items under low cost food service. It is to be noted that under “Janta Khana” food was available in just Rs. 15, but food vendors on stations hardly promoted the same.

As it happens with most of the scheme of Indian Railways – during its launch lots of promises are made. With “Ready to Eat” - hygienic food delivery at passenger’s berth is promised but it is for the passengers to decide that whether promises made by Indian railways will be fulfilled or not, only after its launch.
